ART MAG #35: Contemporary Art Invites Us to See Differently

delphine Jonckheere fondatrice du magazine art mag international

Editorial — November–December 2026 | ART MAG International

We look at hundreds of images every day. But how many of them truly make us stop and take notice?

In a world where everything is displayed, shared and almost instantly forgotten, taking the time to look has become an act of attention in its own right. A work of art does not always reveal itself at first glance. It can surprise, unsettle, stir emotions or challenge what we thought we knew.

Through its 35th issue, dedicated to contemporary art in November and December 2026, ART MAG International explores this unique relationship between the artwork, the artist and the viewer.

Contemporary Photography: 200 Years of Images — What Next?

Two hundred years after Nicéphore Niépce’s earliest experiments, photography reflects the transformation of our relationship with images. Long associated with the representation of reality, it now explores territories where the boundaries between truth, fiction and artistic creation are increasingly uncertain.

Digital technologies and artificial intelligence have expanded creative possibilities, but they also raise a fundamental question: is producing an image enough to create a work of art?

Marking the bicentenary of photography and Paris Photo 2026, our special feature brings together five distinctive artistic approaches: Thomas Ruff, Randa Mirza, Isabelle le Minh, Viktoria Binschtok and Vincent Fournier.

Their work reminds us that artistic value lies not simply in technical mastery, but in the intention behind a creation and the questions it inspires.

Contemporary Artists Who Challenge the Way We See

This ability to shift our perspective runs throughout the pages of our latest issue.

On the cover, Cédric Petitgerard transforms the piano into a sculptural presence, bringing together transparency, precious materials and exceptional craftsmanship.

At the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, Kerry James Marshall challenges the established narratives of painting and the place of Black figures within art history.

Elsewhere, metal, stone and memories of the city become the foundations of highly personal artistic explorations. Didier Caudron, Michael Tavernier, Hélène Jacob and Moot reveal the diversity of contemporary artistic expression.

These varied approaches demonstrate an essential creative freedom: the ability to offer a different interpretation of the world.

ART MAG International: Championing Artistic Discovery

Since its founding, ART MAG International has upheld a central conviction: artistic discovery should not be reserved for established names.

Our role is also to seek out distinctive artistic practices, give them the attention they deserve and enable readers to develop their own perspectives.

Recognition alone cannot determine artistic merit, just as market value cannot, by itself, define the quality of a work of art.

In an art world where visibility carries increasing weight, the specialist press must continue to exercise critical judgement, place artistic practices in context and make rigorous editorial choices.

The aim is not to set established artists against those still seeking recognition, but to consider each artistic approach for what it contributes to contemporary creation.

Our ambition is not to present ever more works of art, but to give each work we choose to feature a genuine opportunity to be seen and appreciated.

It is this commitment to quality, curiosity and independent judgement that guides ART MAG International, issue after issue.

I hope you enjoy discovering our 35th issue.
